Welcome to the Staten Island Fencing Club

About Us

Founded in 1980, the Staten Island Fencing Club has been a cornerstone of the local community, dedicated to offering expert instruction in the Olympic sport of fencing. Fencing is a dynamic and intense sport that not only provides a rigorous physical workout but also sharpens focus, concentration, and discipline. These skills extend beyond the sport, enhancing judgment, anticipation, intuition, and relieving stress, while improving balance, speed, hand-eye coordination, and self-confidence.

Whether your goal is to compete at the high school or college level, or to participate in USA Fencing tournaments, our experienced coaches are here to guide you every step of the way. At the Staten Island Fencing Club, we also foster a welcoming environment where fencers can connect, socialize, and build lasting friendships.

Our History

The Staten Island Fencing Club’s rich history began with Stephan Khinoy, a professor of medieval literature and English, who brought his lifelong passion for fencing to Staten Island. As the club’s first President and Head Coach, Steve laid the foundation for what would become a thriving community hub for fencers of all ages.

Over the years, the club has produced many skilled fencers, with most of our current coaches being products of our own programs. These individuals have pursued their own fencing journeys while also excelling in their respective careers. Today, the Staten Island Fencing Club stands as a testament to Steve’s vision and dedication, continuing to inspire and train the next generation of fencers.
